30 Rock, Mad Men Score Big at 2009 Emmy Nominations
And the nominees are...
It's the biggest night in television, when all your favorite stars are recognized for being pretty, making jokes and for how well they pretend to cry. So pull up a chair. The 2009 Emmy nominations are here.
Now, a detailed review of all the nominations would take us most of the week, which might be why the show is so long, but here are a couple big winners, and surprises, worth talking about.
The biggest (potential) winner is 30 Rock, which grabbed 22 nominations. It placed in every major category, including Best Comedy Series, Best Actress (Tina Fey), Best Actor (Alec Baldwin), and every supporting/guest actor or actress category you can think of.
The runners-up for the Best Comedy Award include The Office, Weeds, Entourage and first-timers How I Met Your Mother and Flight of the Conchords.
But the biggest surprise may be Fox's Family Guy, which became the first animated show to be nominated for the award since The Flintstones in 1961.
On the other side of the TV spectrum, everyone's favorite show about boozing mysoginist ad-execs in the 1960's, Mad Men, garnered 16 nominations. It will have to fight off Dexter, House, Big Love, Lost and surprise hit Breaking Bad if it wants to win.
So who got snubbed, and who's an unworthy flub? If you have a better idea of who should be up at that podium, let the Emmys know below. We'll make sure to get the word to them.
