7 Strange Reasons You May Have A Headache
Culprits Include Cocktail Hour and Filling Up the Tank
Weren't in the mood last night because you really did have a headache? You may be surprised as to why. Prevention just released seven new reasons you may suffer from them...and several are rather unexpected.
For example, did you know hitting the hors d'ouevres could trigger head pain? Food that's often served during Happy Hour or at cocktail parties - like aged meats and cheeses - contain sulfites, which can dilate blood vessels and cause headaches by cutting off circulation to the brain. Makes you wonder whether Carrie Bradshaw and her party posse carried a bottle of Excedrin in her purse, no?
Moving on, the weekend is another surprising culprit since it seems that time off could be causing you pain. How? Caffeine withdrawal. Getting up later in the day means you don't drink your coffee as early as you usually do (if you drink it at all on Saturdays and Sundays) and your body isn't pleased. The recommended solution: waking up the same time on the weekends as you do during the week. Sound good to you? Yeah, we don't think so either.

The gas station can also give you a headache...and not just from the prices. The New York Headache Center reports that the smell of gasoline is a major trigger. Same goes for tobacco and, in certain cases, perfume. A good excuse to tell your pal she needs to lay off that scent you hate when she's around you!
