The holiday shopping season officially begins in just two weeks (unless you count the numerous sales flyers and holiday decorations already in stores, of course), and here's the perfect gift to get you in a party mood: a whiskey advent calendar.

Instead of opening up each day in the countdown 'til Christmas and receiving a little chocolate treat, celebrants opening the whiskey advent calendar will find a 3cl sample of whisky behind each door.

One day even contains a sample of a 50-year-old, very pricey single malt Scotch that, in a full-sized bottle, costs $550.

The advent calendar set is available at the Master of Malt website, which boasts that it offers samples of the various libations it sells.

The samples are not free, however. Since some of the bottles of liquor the site sells can run in the four-figure range, some of the samples cost as much as $62.14 (for a Port Ellen 32 Year Old 1979, 12th Release).

We have no idea what a Port Ellen 32 Year Old 1979, 12th Release is supposed to taste like -- our alcohol maturity pretty much topped off with Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers -- but if a bottle of it costs $958.39 cents, it must be a fine drink.

No better, in our humble opinion, than a four-pack of Bartles & Jaymes Pomegranate Raspberry, but still, a fine drink.
