Alanis Morissette Talks About Her Eating Disorder
Alanis Eats to Live!
Alanis Morissette recently shared in Health magazine that she had major eating problems-- anorexia in her teens paired with poor habits in her twenties that severely affected her lifestyle. Alanis said that Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book Eat to Live became her guide and helped her refine her nutritional goals.
"Now I concentrate on eating high-nutrient foods like fruit, nuts, collards, kale, and spinach. I'm obsessed with them. I even put spinach in my smoothies! - and arugula, too," Alanis said.
"I eat a lot of flaxseed oil to keep my omega-3s up, and I put cruciferous veggies like broccoli in soups - they're so good for you."
Alanis, like Valerie Bertinelli, believes that "treats are mandatory." She will drink a glass of wine or have a piece of chocolate, and she does "healthy food swaps" to kill cravings. Her regular pizza is now topped with soy cheese and organic tomatoes, and she adds balsamic vinegar and vegan butter on her popcorn.
Alanis also claims that her skin improved drastically when she cut dairy out of her diet, which was a suggestion from her friend Woody Harrelson. Since she's been running marathons and looking amazingly healthy, I might just have to try a few of her eating suggestions myself.
Do you have similar eating habits to Alanis, or will you try her techniques?
