Alexander McQueen Puts On a Show - Paris Fashion Week
God save McQueen.
After seeing looks from Lanvin, Balenciaga, and Gareth Pugh it's become pretty obvious that many designers are looking to stay relevant during These Economic Times. That does not seem to be the case for Alexander McQueen. The king of all things dramatic showed a collection that was nothing short of fantastic. Would I wear any of the clothes? Probably not. But since when has that been a requirement?
The clothes for the most part were new interpretations of old designs: lots of New Look Christian Dior (houndstooth) and Chanel tweed. What wasn't old was his slightly scary styling. Larger than life lips, bondage chains, and goth white complexions cascaded down a shattered glass runway.
Perhaps this wasn't so much a fashion statement as a reflection on the state of the world? Traditional fashion that doesn't quite break barriers is indicative of a society that doesn't know how to move forward.
