Are You a Citizen of Hopenhagen?
Become One Today
If you page through the news on any given day, you'll spot signs of global change--both good and bad. If you're wondering how we're going to get from "Point A" to "Point B" and cut down on carbon emissions, making the world a better, safer place, you'll want to have a look at what Hopenhagen's all about.
2009 might be quickly coming to a close, but there's one last chance this year to make serious decisions about the fate of our planet. Held in Copenhagen, one of the greenest cities in the world, The United Nations Climate Change Conference is going to provide an opportunity for leaders to productively, effectively develop a plan that will affect us all: a concrete map to minimizing the effects of climate change through reduction of carbon emissions.
Hopehagen's goal is simple, clear: to give the people of the world a way to express their support for a positive outcome at the conference, turning Copenhagen into Hopenhagen. If the economy has been stressing you this year, you're also a prime potential citizen of Hopenhagen. "It might not seem like global warming has anything to do with the economic meltdown, but the two issues are actually closely interconnected," Hopenhagen claims. "Investing in alternative energy and conservation is predicted to create more than 20 million new jobs in everything from wind farming to biofuels to weatherproofing. A healthy environment and a healthy economy – Hopenhagen can make it happen."
Having a major conference in which to determine the transition our world will be taking into a green--and sustainable--economy is no small matter. While we can't trek to Copenhagen to show our support, we can become citizens of Hopenhagen today. The UN Climate Petition, which can be signed on Hopenhagen's website, will be presented to world leaders to drive home the fact that we're all yearning for a greener future. If you sign today, your name will be personally presented along with every other citizen of Hopenhagen's during the conference on December 7th-18th, 2009.
