Arnold Schwarzenegger Fathered Child Out of Wedlock

The plot thickens

A lot of people are waking up this morning and saying, "ahhh, now it makes sense." It was just the other day that we learned Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver were separating and many of us were in shock. Now we're learning that Arnold fathered a child with a member of their household staff over ten years ago. And suddenly, the split makes more sense.

In some ways, this news is totally shocking. But then again, should any scandal in politics really shock us anymore? What's more shocking is the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger was able to keep news of his child with another woman quiet for so long, from both the public and his wife.

Schwarzenegger is admitting he had an affair, and a child, with a household staff member over a decade ago, before he ran for political office. And it wasn't until after he left office that he bothered to tell wife Maria Shriver about his indiscretion and child.

In a statement to the L.A. Times, Arnold says, "After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago... I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry."

Wow. I can't even imagine how Maria Shriver feels, knowing she lived with Arnold for all these years, even defending him against allegations of groping women. All the while, he knew he had a child with another woman and has been financially supporting the child all along. Additionally, Arnold and Maria's children must be in absolute shock, especially since they likely knew the child their father was also the father of. Ugh.

The woman Arnold had an affair with worked for the family for over 20 years, just retiring in January. She didn't wish to comment on the situation.
