Arrests Made in Connection with Phelps BongGate

Sheriff escalates the "situation" to a Code Orange.

People need to chill. This whole BongGate thing is getting way out of control. The latest in a string of overreactions? Sheriff Leon Lott and his posse have arrested eight people in connection with the Phelps pot smoking scandal.

The good Sheriff was taking some heat for focusing solely on the Olympian. So what did he do? He decided to spread that heat around. Seven have been arrested for drug possession and one for distribution.

Police have also confiscated the now infamous bong. The water pipe owner was apparently trying to sell the apparatus on eBay for $100,000. Geezus. Who are these people?

So far, Michael has not been charged with anything. Governor Mark Sanford said he didn't really see the point of that. We hope he spreads that message of mellow to the over-eager Sheriff.
