Over 500 Chemicals Every Day

Think that eating organic's your ticket to healthy? Ug, we're scratching at the surface, according to this study that examined exactly how many synthetics we put on our skin daily. That's it, where's my Burt's Bees? This is some scary news.

Even if you think that you're a light makeup gal, and this number applies to the fiends among us, the list might surprise you. Bionsen, a natural deodorant company, stated that women, on average, put 515 chemicals on their bodies daily.

BellaSugar examined the most common suspects, which are perfume (250), shampoo (15), nail polish (31), blush (16), eye shadow (26), hairspray (11), lipstick (33), deodorant (15), foundation (24), lotion (32), and self-tanner (22). On a day-to-day basis, I use everything except the self-tanner...and I work at home! I can only imagine how high that number must sky-rocket when I get dressed up for a night out.

Bionsen's Charlotte Smith commented that "Lots of the high-tech, new generation cosmetics and beauty 'wonder' treatments naturally contain more chemicals to achieve even better results, which, of course, means women apply more chemicals than ever before."

Just another reason to go organic. I have an amazing book to recommend if this news freaks you out: try Return to Beauty by Narine Nikogosian! More on its awesomeness next week.
