There was even more reason to be amped for Mother's Day than showing the leading women in our lives how important they are. The world was waiting for Betty White to host Saturday Night Live on Saturday night! Here are 10 wild things we can almost guarantee you didn't know -- or forgot -- about screen legend Betty White.

1. Betty White did way more in show business than play lovable, hilarious characters -- she was also a producer at one point! She co-produced a sitcom called Life with Elizabeth (1952 to 1955), in which she also starred. Her production skills earned Betty White her first Emmy.

2. Betty White was cast as Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in 1973 because Mary Tyler Moore said White was "sickeningly sweet."

3. Betty White's maternal grandfather was Greek. Really?!

4. Betty White starred alongside former Golden Girls co-stars Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty in a Golden Girls spinoff, The Golden Palace, in 1992. The show lasted only one season.

5. Betty White won the Emmy for Outstanding Actress during the first season of The Golden Girls. She was nominated every season of the show's run (The Golden Girls aired from 1985 to 1992.)

6. Betty White is a huge animal rights activist. Among many pet charities and animal organizations White's been involved with, she has served on the board of directors for the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association since 1974. In 2008 she donated $100,000 to the L.A. Zoo.

7. In 2006 Betty White took on a temporary role on the CBS soap opera The Bold and The Beautiful.

8. Betty White has been married three times. Her third husband, late TV host Allen Ludden, proposed to Betty White twice before she finally said yes. They married in 1963 and had no children. Ludden passed away of stomach cancer in 1981.

9. Betty White boasts approximately 100 television acting credits and 20 film credits. White's appearances in recent years include Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, Family Guy, The Proposal and Bringing Down the House.
