Big Oil is Bad Guy in Pixar's 'Cars 2'
How much gas will YOU use to get to the theater?
If cars could talk (and eat and breathe and use the bathroom), who would their most evil nemesis be? Why, giant oil companies of course. Director John Lasseter has revealed in a new interview that Pixar's new film, Cars 2, will feature Lightning McQueen and the gang battling Big Oil.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Lasseter explained where he got the idea for the upcoming sequel's dastardly villain.
"I kept thinking about, 'OK. A spy movie in the world where cars are alive. What would be a really good kind of über bad guy? Who is an über bad guy?' I kept going to big oil. This is before what happened in the Gulf of Mexico.
Why isn't alternative fuel more ... Why isn't everybody jumping on that bandwagon? It makes so much sense: Electricity, solar, whatever. There's ethanol. There's all this stuff you could be doing. And so I thought, well, that could be really cool in that you could have big oil versus alternative fuel. That's when we kind of crafted the bad guy's story.

The greatest bad guys, you understand where they're coming from. They believe they're doing the right thing. Sometimes it's for greed, sometimes it's for other reasons, but they are what they call the center of good. They always believe they're doing the right thing."
While the news has already pissed off many conservative bloggers (the plot is, after all, typical of liberal Hollywood and its un-American, anti-free market agenda), I doubt its really going to matter who the evil guy is. The first Cars film grossed half a billion dollars at the box office in 1996, and Cars 2 looks to rev that up even higher.
So no matter where your political leanings are, chances are you're heading out to see Cars 2 when it opens this weekend. Just do Lasseter a favor and ride your bike to the theater.
