Boy Finds Family's Life Savings, Spends $4,000 on Candy

In His Defense, He Did Share the Loot With His School Chums

Reason #329 why it's a really bad idea to stash your cash around the house instead of a bank, or, at least, a safe to which your sweet-toothed child does not have the combination: a 9-year-old boy in the Ukraine found his family's savings in their home and blew it all on a candy spree.

The sum: $4,000, which the boy quickly spent on candy, in just a few days' time, UPI reports.

The cash, hard earned by his shift worker father, was hidden in the family couch, in the form of U.S. cash and euros.

The boy asked a local adult, who has a mental disorder according to police, to convert the cash to Ukranian hryvnas for him, and then it was off to be, well, a kid in a candy store, but with a whole lot of cash to spend on lollipops and gummy bears.

The kid did share his sugary booty with his schoolmates, police said, but that's probably little comfort to his parents.

Of course, again, though obviously the kid was wrong, the 'rents have got to be rethinking that decision to store their life's savings in a couch, right?
