Ladies, get your trenches

If you were worried that Burberry may be going out of fashion, I think it's safe to say those fears can be set aside. After all, Burberry was honored with two of the top prizes at the British Fashion Awards last week. With their new social media website (The Art of the Trench) and their signature plaid as popular as ever, it doesn't look like Burberry is going away any time soon.

Believe it or not, Burberry's been around since 1856. The brand oozes class and Americans are always eager to get their hands on the classic plaid, whether it's in the form of trench coats, handbags, shoes, or polo shirts. And it just got a whole lot classier, winning the awards for Designer Brand and BFC Designer of the Year.

Burberry's Chief Creative Officer, Christopher Bailey, accepted the awards for the fashion house. After accepting the award for Designer of the Year from Victoria Beckham, he said, "Particularly, I want to thank Angela Ahrendts, our chief executive and my partner in crime. She is an amazing leader, and I have huge respect for her and we all share this award together." It's great to see Burberry on top!

Though Burberry was affected by the recession, they actually reported better than expected second-quarter revenue forecasts last month. They're clearly doing something right. While that's exciting for Burberry, it's not so fabulous for us because it means they scaled back their inventory by 40% this year so they wouldn't have to give us deep discounts during the holiday season. Why oh why, Burberry?

After the awards, Bailey gave a special announcement: "I am extremely pleased to announce that the Burberry Prorsum womenswear show will stay in London again this season and will be held during London Fashion Week in February." Of course, we all wish it would come to America, but I'm sure we'll see it soon enough!
