CNN Heroes: 2011 Winner and Celebrity Photos
Celebs Honor CNN Heroes at Tribute Event
At long last, an awards show that actually means something. CNN honored their "Heroes of the Year," and while the winner was not a celebrity, the rich and famous did attend the ceremony.
CNN's 2011 Hero of the Year award was presented to "Mother Robin" Robin Lim, an American woman who has assisted Indonesian women with healthy pregnancies and birth through her Yayasan Bumi Sehat health clinics.
The clinics offer free prenatal care, medical aid and birthing services to poor Indonesian women.
Lim said during the CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute event, "Every baby's first breath on Earth could be one of peace and love. Every mother should be healthy and strong. Every birth could be safe and loving. But our world is not there yet."

The average Indonesian family earns the equivalent of $8 a day, the International Monetary Fund reports. Child care and baby delivery costs far exceed what families can afford, and Lim said that the lack of income to cover these costs is a cause of the high maternal and infant mortality rates in Indonesia.
Lim was chosen by voters who visited CNN.com. She will receive $250,000.
In her acceptance speech, Lim said, "Today on our Earth, 981 mothers in the prime of their life will die -- and tomorrow again and yesterday. And I'm asking you to help change that. We don't even know how many babies are lost, but all of us can help change that."
