Catholic Church Says to Pray Before Sex
Give us the strength to get it on.
Things are just starting to get hot and heavy. You've taken his shirt off, he's wrestling with your bra, when all of a sudden he looks into your eyes and whispers: "let's pray." Yep. According to a new statement from the Catholic Church, that's exactly what you should do.
The book is called the Prayer Book for Spouses and is being offered by London's Catholic Truth Society for about $4. It contains prayers every God-loving couple could need, including ones on engagement, pregnancy and caring for children.
But, of course, the one to be said before sex is drawing all of the attention. It asks God "to place within us love that truly gives, tenderness that truly unites, self-offering that tells the truth and does not deceive, forgiveness that truly receives, loving physical union that welcomes."
The Church has been caught between a rock and a hard place lately, as it struggles with contemporary issues like same-sex marriage and contraception. And now, This pre-coital prayer marks one of the first times a representative for the Catholic Church has recommended adding such a ceremony before sex.
