Cedric the Entertainer to Host "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"
Meredith Vieira Is Passing Her Hosting Torch to The Comedian
Cedric the Entertainer is poised to take the hosting reins of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" from Meredith Vieira this fall. And, why not? His old "Kings of Comedy" sidekick, Steve Harvey, has breathed new life into "The Family Feud," and the producers of "Millionaire" are hoping that Cedric can do the same with the tired trivia show.
You'll recall that the show began in 1999 as a primetime game show with Regis Philbin as host and soon became a ratings bonanza for ABC. Since 2002, the show has been a daytime staple with former "Today" show host, Meredith Vieira at the helm (she even won two Daytime Emmys for her efforts) but it's been losing ratings at a steady rate and the powers that be figured it could use an infusion of some comedic magic. Enter Cedric the Entertainer.
“I’m truly looking forward to hosting ‘Millionaire,’ ” the comic, who lately has been suplementing his stand-up career by voicing the "Penguins of Madagascar" character "Maurice." “The show is a modern-day game show giant, and the team at Disney-ABC has been great at putting the right elements together over 11 seasons. I’m excited to entertain all those who watch and play as season 12 launches … It’s going to be a good time every day!”
Will you tune back in to "Millionaire" now that Cedric's going to be hosting?
