Celine Dion Pregnant With Eight-Year-Old Embryo

Céline Dion has revealed she is pregnant with an embryo that has been frozen for eight years. The Canadian singer and her husband René Angélil, 67, are reportedly overjoyed.

Their IVF specialist said: "You could hear her chuckling. She was very happy. So was René. They are both very thankful." Zev Rosenwaks, of New York's Ronald O. Perelman and Claudia Cohen Centre for Reproductive Medicine, carried out the in-vitro fertilisation procedure and called Dion, 41, to let her know her pregnancy test had returned a positive result. He said: "She is feeling well. So far, so good. I look forward to hearing the foetal heartbeat. René and Céline are both looking forward to a pregnancy that is a healthy one. There is no question she is ecstatic." For Dion's pregnancy, Rosenwaks used an embryo that had been kept frozen in liquid nitrogen for eight years. He said: "She is very, very early in her pregnancy." Dion, who completed a long Las Vegas run in 2007, underwent IVF to conceive her first child, René-Charles, who was born in 2001. She had embryos frozen at the time. Rosenwaks added: "There have been embryos that have been [frozen] for more than 10 years, and even more than 15 years, that have successfully thawed and resulted in a pregnancy."
