Synecdoche \si-NEK-duh-kee\, noun: a figure of speech by which a part is put for the whole.
.

Word-of-the-day can be so helpful.

Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York, starring Michelle Williams, is ready to hit the theatres this weekend and we noticed some fancy word play in the film’s title. It seems these celebs are a couple of wordsmiths.

Synecdoche’s actual meaning is a part for a whole. And seeing as the movie chronicles the building of a miniature model of Schenectady, (you know, the city in New York) we say the title is spot on. Who knew Hollywood was so literary?
