'Cocktail' Adapting To Broadway, Katie Holmes Could Star
Old-school cock-of-the-walk Tom Cruise gig takes to the stage.
Tom Cruise may have had a very bad week last week, but his 1980s romp as a bartending babe remains among our favorite of his early feats. Wiith original Cocktail writer Heywood Gould and Broadway producer Marty Richards on tap adapting a stage version of the flick, will Cocktail on Broadway shake or spill?
If writer Gould gets his way, it'll shake. Gould was the guest of honor at the Cocktail 20th anniversary party at the TGIFriday's Penn Station location Friday night in New York City, and he told a reporter that sees Katie Holmes as a principle cast member of Cocktail when the casting finally gets underway. Gould told a reporter, "I do like Katie Holmes," even though he said they're only in the writing and music-score stages.
.
Could Katie Holmes stir it up as the woman who seduces her hubby's famed character? Feelings are divided. Holmes fell under fire when she appeared on So You Think You Can Dance? earlier this year doing a Judy Garland tribute for charity. While no one seems to mind looking at Katie Holmes' gams, critics voiced that she should stick to acting and stop trying to use her pedigree Hollywood title to score primetime appearances. Even the show's host Cat Deeley was quoted saying that as far as Katie appearing on the show in the future, "Once was probably enough."
Broadway better get ready to do some intoxicating marketing...
