Coldplay and Lil Wayne Are Worst Albums of '08
We couldn't hit stop fast enough.
Every rose has its thorn. Just like every night has its dawn. As Poison would surely attest, for every good album there are many, many many bad albums.
Here are our pics for the worst albums of 2008.
Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (Coldplay): We're not sure whether Coldplay is a very overrated band making mediocre rock songs or a very good band making mediocre rock songs. Unfortunately, their much-anticipated fourth album did little to answer that question. At its best, the album sounded like an impressive, well-funded karaoke version of U2.
Discipline (Janet Jackson): Oh, Janet what has happened to you? First you release this mleh pop/dance/hip hop mash up and then you cancel the bulk of your tour. We don't know if the nasty migraines caused things to get a little helter skelter in the recording room, but this is not your best work. "Feedback" sounds like burned out Britney and "LUV" is destined for a Berlin disco. We are a part of your Rhythm Nation and we know you can do better.
Tha Carter III (Lil Wayne): Maybe we just don't like babies with tats on their faces. Or grown men who make millions only to freeze it into ice sculptures. Whatever the reason, we did not flock to Lil Wayne's latest offering. The vocals sound like an ogre, grunting into the mic after taking several hits of nitrous. If that's Grammy worthy, somebody should tell Shrek.
Shine Through It (Terrence Howard): It's been a rough year for Terrence. He lost his role in Iron Man 2 and put out this hideous album. Though Hustle & Flow was amazing, we're not sure it gave him license to unleash his musical "talents" on the world. "Love Makes You Beautiful" sounded like music for a Saturday Night Live skit, and that was the album's high point.
Bittersweet World (Ashlee Simpson): We have to applaud Ashlee for her tenacity. If we were caught lip synching on national television, we might re-think our career plans just a little. But not Ashlee; she came back swinging, landing a sucker punch to the faces of music fans everywhere with Bittersweet World.
