Crystal Renn Walks in Three Paris Shows
Crystal's French catwalk treat
Crystal Renn used to be a size 12, plus-size model, but she slimmed out to a size 10 this year. Even so, the model stands out amongst the size 0s-6s (and sometimes even 8s). She's never booked three shows on the Paris Fashion Week runway, so this is a big deal--no pun intended!
The Ford model and author used to have an eating disorder when she was first working as a model, later penning the autobiographical Hungry about life in the limelight.

Renn booked Jean Paul Gaultier, Chanel, and Zac Posen in Paris this season, and she's already admitted that she can't wait until next time around. Things have changed in the industry, she commented, and it's getting more and more exciting.
"When I first started, the girls were all blonde, all emaciated and miserable looking," she said. "Now, there's more ethnic diversity. The girls are not as skinny as before. You do see size 6s and a couple size 8s. There is change happening in the industry. There is more allowance for people to be different. I'm so impressed. I can't wait for next season."

Renn also walked in the 2006 Jean Paul Gaultier show as a "special guest," when she was considerably fleshier and more of a standard plus-size model (12/14). You have to wonder whether the industry has changed as much as she thinks, or if she has. Of course, plus-size is en vogue right now, so we'll be waiting to see what happens next season.
