Dakota Fanning As Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz' Remake?
Dakota Fanning has reportedly been lined up to play the role of Dorothy in a remake of The Wizard of Oz. The 15-year-old actress is tipped for the lead role in the movie, which could start filming in the UK next year.
If the film is remade it would be 70 years since the original film was made, starring 16-year-old Judy Garland. It is claimed the movie's remake would be "darker and more action-packed" than the original, according to a Warner Brothers executive. Producer Basil Iwanyk said: "It will be set in the present day and feature Dorothy's granddaughter." Co-producer Todd McFarlane told British newspaper the Sunday Express: "You've still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she's much closer to the Ripley character from Alien than a helpless singing girl." Terence Doyle, the editor of British Film Magazine, said: "We're perfectly placed to make it here in Britain. We have some of the best special techniques in the world and, post Harry Potter, they'll all be twiddling their thumbs."
