Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol' Finally Out
Time to get bookish.
Robert Langdon fans rejoice. The latest chapter in the Harvard symbologist, who in the past has captivated readers with grand puzzles, epic manhunts and the uncovering of massive conspiracies, comes out today. Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol is on shelves.
Brown's new novel has been hotly anticipated ever since it was announced years ago. Originally scheduled for 2006, its release date has been pushed back numerous times. Now, publisher Random House will debuted the novel today, with a record-breaking first printing of six million copies.
This time around, the famed professor of symbology and religious iconography tangles with the secretive Freemason society. And this time he's on American soil. When Langdon discovers through a series of gruesome clues that his friend and mentor, Peter Solomon, is missing, he embarks on another fact-finding adventure through the nation's capitol.
This leads him from massive underground buildings that house ancient animal artifacts, through crypts beneath our country's most sacred landmarks and straight to the heart of another international controversy.
Reviews for the book so far have been largely positive. Janet Maslin of the New York Times says the book is "impossible to put down," and that Dan Brown is "bringing the sexy back to a genre that had been left for dead." Nick Ochwar said the novel is a wild ride. "'The Lost Symbol,'" he said, "is more like the experience on any roller coaster -- thrilling, entertaining and then it's over."
