David Letterman Talks About Extortion: Video
He told his story in true Letterman fashion. It was clear the audience didn't really know if he was telling a joke or telling a real story. They laughed throughout, but it was kind of a nervous laughter.
David Letterman told how he got in his car a couple months ago and discovered a package. There was a letter saying unless the person were give $2 million, they would be going public with details from David Letterman's past, including the women staff from his show that he engaged in sexual relations with.
He brought the threats to the police and they just arrested the CBS 48 Hours employee who was discovered to have made them. Letterman admitted to the audience that it's true. He said, "Now of course we get to, what was all the creepy stuff?... The creepy stuff was, I have had sex with women who work on the show...My answer to that was, yes, I have."
He continued, "Would [this news] prove embarrassing? Yes it would - especially for the women." Of course, everyone laughed at this, but there was definitely some shock involved. Letterman has been married to his wife last year after dating since 1986. They also have a 6-year-old son together.
What do you think of David Letterman's comedic confession? Do you think he should have kept quiet or made a separate statement apart from his show? Or do you think he did the right thing?
