Diana Ross Staying Silent on Michael Jackson's Death
Legendary singer Diana Ross has revealed the reason why she stayed away from the public memorial for Michael Jackson - she needed to find closure. In a statement, Ross said: "I have decided to pause and be silent.
"This feels right for me. Michael was a personal love of mine, a treasured part of my world, part of the fabric of my life in a way that I can't seem to find words to express. "I am trying to find closure. I want you to know that even though I am not there at the Staples Center, I am there in my heart." Ross was a childhood mentor to the late Jackson and the couple performed together many times. In footage aired in the US this week, the pair were seen performing together with Jackson casting Ross numerous adoring gazes, as he admitted he had harboured a crush on her for many years. Ross introduced the Jackson Five brothers to record company Motown and continued to mentor them as they grew up. Jackson named Ross as a fall-back guardian for his three children after his mother, Katherine, who is 79. But Ross, while acknowledging their grief, appeared to distance herself from such a role as she added: "Michael wanted me to be there for his children, and I will be there if ever they need me. "I hope today brings closure for all those who loved him."
