If You're Ever Home Alone, The House Can Be Protected By Swinging Paint Cans And Feathers

Loved Ferris Bueller's Day Off or The Breakfast Club? Want to own a shrine to 80s pop culture? Well, for the sweet sum of $5.89 million, you can be the happy-go-lucky owner of legendary director John Hughes' not-so-humble abode.

Hughes passed away too soon in 2009, after having a fatal heart attack at the age of 59. Now, his widow Nancy Ludwig, is selling their home in the Lake Forest area of Illinois.

The listing of Hughes' longtime mansion was not necessarily a surprise, given that Ludwig paid $5.2 million in late 2009 for a 17-room, 6,700-square-foot English country-style mansion in east Lake Forest -- about three blocks away.

Built in 1930 and designed by architect Edwin Hill Clark, the three-story mansion was expanded with a large addition in 1992, and now boasts six bedrooms, six full baths, four half baths, six fireplaces, a swimming pool, a media room and a three-car, heated garage. As the home's official Coldwell Banker listing suggest, the 2.1-acre property is totally practical for “today’s families,” or even a “casual gathering."
