Disney's First Latina Princess Has White Skin, Blue Eyes
New Princess Movie Debuts On Disney Junior In November
Every little girl dreams of being a Disney princess. Unfortunately, your chances of becoming one seem to depend on the color of your skin. Disney's first Latina princess -- starring in the upcoming TV movie Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess -- is drawing criticism because of her pale complexion and blue eyes.

Little Sofia, whom makes her debut next month in a brand new TV movie on Disney Junior and later in a TV series, is set to become the Mouse House's very first princesa in 90 years of cartoons.
But the seniorita barely even had a chance to try on her tiara before criticism was levelled at her obviously caucasian features. With light brown hair, pale skin and bright blue eyes, Sofia looks awfully white.
Making matters worse is that the character will be voiced by Modern Family actress Ariel Winter, who is white.

Disney, meanwhile, has not officially said Sofia is their first Latina princess, though an executive producer did confirm that her mother (voiced by Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez) is Latina.
In all it points to Disney's strategy of not calling out Sofia's heritage, possibly to avoid creating controversy.
"We never actually call it out," said Joe D'Ambrosia, the vice president of programing at Disney Junior. "When we go into schools [to talk to young students about the show], what I find fascinating is that every girl thinks that they're Sofia."
