Spanish Research Suggests the Answer Is Yes

Looking for an excuse to enjoy a night or two at the pub, bar, or club? A study in Spain suggests that beer might promote bone density. While those who ran the study won't recommend that you guzzle a pint, it's good to know. Get ready for the specifics!

1,700 women participated in the study, and the moderate beer drinkers of the bunch had the best bone density of all the women. Why? The study suggests that beer's plant hormone phytoestrogen might help maintain or even build bone density.

The team reflected that "Silicon plays a major role in bone formation. Beer has been claimed to be one of the most important sources of silicon in the Western diet."

The study was completed using an ultrasound hand scan, because hands often display the effects of bone weakening over time. I guess you don't need to feel guilty about having one beer in the afternoon anymore!
