Don Cornelius Suffered Seizures, Depressed Before His Death

Soul Train legend Don Cornelius was suffering before he took his own life.

Cornelius' autopsy results, obtained by E! News, tell the tale of a man who was in a lot of pain before committing suicide.

E! reports that Cornelius, who died in February at age 75, died from a
self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The report notes Cornelius suffered an aneurysm 15 years ago and he developed seizures, as his "health continued to decline regardless of his medication."

The autopsy report further states that on February 1 at 3 a.m., Cornelius called his son and said, "I don't know how long I can take this."

He shot himself just moments later.

His son's report includes how he found his father: "[I] found the back door open and detected the odor of smoke ... then found [the elder Cornelius] unresponsive on a chair. 911 was dialed."

The report also detailed Cornelius' wounds and supporting information about his mental state, noting that he was "very depressed about his failing health" for the past six months.

Cornelius was pronounced dead at 4:56 a.m. after paramedics were unable to revive him.

There was no suicide note found at the scene.
