Edward Cullen: Men Can't Compete With You
We sure hope they still try though
It's true. Most girls want a man just like Robert Pattinson's Twilight character Edward Cullen. But, unfortunately, it's very unlikely we'll ever find him. Sigh. Only in our dreams, right?
You can keep looking, but you probably aren't going to find an Edward Cullen of your very own. And you should probably get the whole idea out of your head, so you can be happy with a "regular" guy.
We feel kind of bad for all those "regular" guys! According to Dr. Lisa Bode from the University of Queensland, girls are "idealising Edward to the point where real men can't compete anymore."
There are actually several groups on Facebook illustrating this, such as "Twilight has ruined any chance I have at a realistic relationship" and "Because I read Twilight I have unrealistic expectations about men." Well, at least girls seem to be realizing their unrealistic expectations. Self-awareness is the first step!
.
Then again, Dr. Bode thinks this might be a good thing for women. She says, "If you consider the way that women have had to put up with men's ideals for centuries and feeling insecure in relation to that, there's perhaps a little bit of revenge coming through."
So, guys, if you keep comparing us to Megan Fox and the characters she plays in movies, we're going to compare you to Robert Pattinson and Edward Cullen. And trust us, you can't win. Though we really, really wish you could.
