Facebook Makes You Jealous, Says Study
The wrong status update can ruin a relationship.
If you have trouble believing your boyfriend is only friends with his newest lady-contact on Facebook, your jealousy might be worse than warranted. According to a new study, Facebook users may be more inclined to jealous behavior because of the abundance of information about their partners on the website.
In the study, 300 Facebook users, mostly women, were surveyed with questions about how easily they become jealous while browsing the site. The results found that the accessibility of information led to jealous behavior, and that the information's lack of context created jealousy over misunderstandings.
The study, published in the CyberPsychology & Behavior Journal, concluded from these findings that there exists a "significant association between time spent on Facebook and jealousy-related feelings and behaviors experienced on Facebook."
So the next time you're fuming about your BF's new friend add, try not to rip his head off before you get the facts. After all, Facebook can only tell you so much.
