Feel Good Story of the Day: Marvel Creates a Superhero For Hearing Disabled Boy
Introducing 'Blue Ear'
Marvel Comics has a lifelong fan in one young boy. The comic book maker received a letter from the distressed mother of a hearing impaired boy, and they responded with a brand new superhero just for him.

Anthony Smith has been a comic book fan for most of the four years he's been on this planet, and, against all odds, the hearing impaired child recently got to have a superhero of his very own. Here's how it happened ...
Anthony, who is deaf in one ear and suffers hearing loss in the other, woke up one morning and refused to wear his hearing aid because there are no superheroes who wear them.
Distraught, Anthony's mother wrote a letter to Marvel asking about characters who have hearing problems, Marvel responded with a picture of Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner in the recent Avengers movie).

But Marvel went even further. They sent Anthony a drawing of a brand new superhero named Blue Ear -- named after what Anthony and his mother called his hearing aid -- who wears the same device Anthony does.
Anthony has since embraced his difference and is beginning to see that real heroes can be powerful and unique, all at the same time.
Needless to say, Marvel earns serious brownie points from us for this (much like Mattel did with its bald Barbie campaign earlier this year). Hope Blue Ear can continue making a difference with children everywhere.
