Former McDonald's Exec Now Launching Healthy Fast Food Chain
He's Still Serving Up Burgers … on Multigrain Buns
Mike Roberts was in charge of more than 31,000 restaurants in his former job as the global president and COO of McDonald's, and now he's putting that experience to use trying to launch a chain of healthy fast food restaurants he hopes will one day be as well-known as the eatery with the golden arches.

After leaving Mickey D's in 2006, Roberts raised $15 million from more than 120 investors to launch LYFE Kitchen, Bloomberg Businessweek (via Inc.com) reports.
LYFE -- an acronym for Love Your Food Everyday -- was conceived with the idea that good-for-you food can also taste great, be cheap and be quickly produced. LYFE Kitchen has just one outlet so far, in Palo Alto, California, but Roberts and his company hope to expand to other cities, including New York City and Chicago, within the next year, Bloomberg reports.

"I had a great experience at McDonald's," Roberts recently told Businessweek in an interview. "I respect the company. Now I want to bring farmers, growers, and restaurateurs together. That's what I am about."
NBA star Derek Fisher and Oprah's former personal chef are among LYFE's investors who hope to reap the rewards once the restaurant expands.
And as for the menu, each restaurant will have its own custom menu based on the produce that is available locally, but a quick perusal of the Palo Alto lineup shows some tasty-sounding, reasonably-priced dishes.
A breakfast burrito with a side of fruit salad is $6.49; ancient grain buttermilk pancakes with fresh berries, greek yogurt, granola and real maple syrup is $4.99; a bowl of sweet corn chowder is $6.99; a Caesar salad with eggless dressing and multigrain croutons is $6.99; risotto peas and carrots is $8.99; a burger with grass-fed beef, agave ketchup and a multigrain bun is $8.49 and for dessert, a slice of lemon pound cake with greek yogurt and fresh fruit is $4.99.
LYFE Kitchen also offers special vegan menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a gluten-free menu.
