Fox and Burger King Apologize for Jessica Simpson Ad
Somebody give the girl a break.
In response to the furor stormed up over a cartoon that openly mocks Jessica Simpson and her weight, Burger King and Fox have issued apologies. The ad includes football characters, including Simpson's ex-boyfriend, Tony Romo, poking fun at her.
In a statement released by Fox, the network said they were completely at fault and Buger King had nothing to do with creating the actual commercial.
"Burger King did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp., approved it before it aired,” the statement said. "Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive, and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended."
The ad aired during Fox's NFL Sunday broadcast last week, and featured cartoon versions of various football players for the Dallas Cowboys making fun of Tony Romo for dating Jessica Simpson.
"Unlike Tony," said the cartoon of tight-end Jason Witten, "at least Jessica comes up big when it counts!"
"Say Tony, is Jessica around?" asked coach Wade Phillips. "We could use a defensive tackle!"
