This is what we call innovative; Japanese photography mammoths Fujifilm are branching into the skincare industry, as they've discovered that the collagen used in photography can erase wrinkles on our face -- without the need for the model and photographer's best friend, Photoshop.

According to Fujifilm, a special collagen call Pico-Collagen can penetrate the skin through gaps between cells, restoring the skin's youthful suppleness and elasticity. This same collagen is also used in photography to stop old photographic images fading.

The natural ingredient in the product is astaxanthin -- a pink pigment found in shellfish and salmon -- and is believed to protect the skin from ultraviolet light.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Andrzej Brylak, director of Fujifilm's European beauty and health division, says "collagen only started being used by the cosmetics industry relatively recently. It is a key ingredient in film emulsion and we have a very long history of research in this area. Preventing oxidisation from light exposure is also a big issue in protecting film and a similarly big issue in preventing skin damage."

It's a smart move by Fujifilm as, with the popularity of mobile phone cameras, there's no longer a use for the old 35mm film. Even as we speak, Fujifilm's rival, Kodak, is filing for bankruptcy protection in the United States. If this new anti-wrinkle cream does well, it will be a life-preserver for Fujifilm, keeping them afloat in the digital tidal wave.
