Graphic Details In Leona Lewis Attack, Plus Video
Lewis' attacker was a 6-foot-5-inch "geeky bumpkin," according to British press.
After being punched in the head during a signing of her new autobiography Dreams, Leona Lewis is not bleeding love - but she was bleeding.
Lewis sought medical attention, and it's said she had a bleeding injury to her head after being violently attacked as a fan being identified as having buck teeth and identified only as a foreigner named Peter "smacked" Lewis and "punched" her in the head. One female onlooker said, "It was horrendous. He waited for Leona to bow her head then just lashed out - a proper full-on punch on the side of her face. She let out a piercing scream and grabbed her temple. Security piled on this guy and Leona just started running." Another witness said the man looked like a "nutjob" and "really walloped" the singer. Fans standing around him in line said that while he waited for five hours to make his way to Leona, he remained aloof in not talking to fellow fans lined up around him.
Apparently Lewis' longtime boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa was present during the lashing and tried to go after the suspect but was held back by police. The suspect was questioned for half an hour and then arrested on charges of bodily harm.
Simon Cowell called Lewis last night to offer his sympathy; sources say Cowell "hit the roof" when he got wind of the attack. X Factor's Amanda Holden tweeted that she couldn't imagine why anyone would attack Leona Lewis - "She is the sweetest girl," Holden wrote.
Lewis has told police that she wants to press charges. She has canceled the German leg of her book tour to recover from stress.
