'Grease' Star Jeff Conaway Seriously Injured In Fall
Conaway appeared as "Kenickie" and on Celeb Rehab with Dr. Drew.
Jeff Conaway has remained a quiet Hollywood staple since his 1978 breakout performance in Grease. Besides Grease you've also seen Conaway on Taxi and Celeb Rehab with Dr. Drew...but after several serious relapses into substance abuse, the 59-year-old actor suffered a fall on Monday that broke his back and hip and caused a serious brain hemorrhage.
The updates on Conaway's state are coming from his girlfriend, singer Vikki Lizzi, and the situation sounds incredibly serious. Conaway apparently fell down a staircase at his home in Los Angeles and is now set to undergo immediate surgery for the brain hemorrhage, fractured back, broken hip and broken arm.
It appears likely that the fall could have been influenced by drug or alcohol use, as Conaway is well known for suffering addictions to cocaine, painkillers, and opiates. His relationship with his girlfriend has been referred to as "co-dependent," and he has told Dr. Drew Pinsky that his relapses into drug and alcohol use occur after he and Vikki have been fighting.
Conaway also confessed to Dr. Drew that he has seriously contemplated suicide and that he would execute the act by using pieces of a broken mirror to injure himself. It's not clear yet whether this fall is linked to a suicide attempt or if it's in any way related to a fight with Vikki Lizzi. Stay with LimeLife for developments (PopEater also has details)...in the meantime with wish Jeff Conaway fast healing and happier days. (It's worth noting that he happens to be the father of Olivia Newton-John's nephew, as he and Newton-John's sister married after meeting surrounding the release of Grease.)
In another celebrity tragedy update, the mother of late actress Brittany Murphy has just come forward to reveal what she believes killed her daughter. Get that story here.
