H&M Debuts 'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' Clothing Line
H&M Celebrates Rape Victim Fashion?
This winter's hot colors? Black, black and more black. Trish Summerville, costume designer on the upcoming mystery thriller Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, has teamed up with H&M for a new clothing line that embraces the darker side of your fashion sense.

Retailer and designer are collaborating on the new 30-piece collection which is inspired by the gloomy apparel worn by Lisbeth Salander, the main character in Stieg Laarson's violent and gritty Dragon Tattoo novels and the subsequent film adaptations.
The collection features black leather jackets, tight leather pants, slim vests and short jean and leather skirts.
"Lisbeth has a ferociousness and fearlessness about her; she does not stand idly by but rights the wrongs," said Summerville. "In that sense women can identify with that, they can feel empowered."

Not everyone is feeling empowered by the line, however. In the novels, Salander develops her unique style in part due to her tramautic past and present (she is raped by a legal guardian), and critics say H&M is celebrating sexual abuse through the promotion of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo clothes.
H&M says this is not the intent.
"We don't stand behind the violence or the harshness, but the look is very cool," said Anna Norling, a lead designer for the retailer.
The new line will appear in stores internationally and online on December 14. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, debuts in theaters December 21.
