Haiti Earthquake Disaster Fundraiser Was Record-Breaking
Hope for Haiti Telethon raises $57 million.
What a turnout! With a reported death toll hovering around 200,000, the Haiti earthquake disaster has stunned us with its devastating statistics since the earth shook around Port-au-Prince nearly two weeks ago. What's stunning after Friday night's celeb-packed Hope for Haiti Telethon, however, is a fundraising figure that makes us ecstatic!
Were you one of the millions of benefactors on Friday who made a call or a click to donate? If so, you helped break a world record. Us Weekly reported Monday morning: "[The $57 million] sets a new record for donations made by the public through a disaster relief telethon -- and the money keeps coming in from around the world. The impressive preliminary figures account for donations made via phone, online and mobile; iTunes sales and large corporate donations are still being tallied."
All this thanks to good people like YOU, and to the participation of television networks and celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, (did they cross paths? We have the report here) Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Julia Roberts, Jake Gyllenhaal, Denzel Washington, Justin Timberlake and his old pal Matt Morris.
In case you missed it, we have highlights of the all-star Hope for Haiti telethon right here...plus it's not too late to donate! Go to HopeforHaitiNow.org to give and make this record even greater. (Then check back with LimeLife on more hot Hollywood developments!)
