Country Music's Biggest Night
The CMAs were Wednesday night and the show was full of glitz, glamour, cowboy hats, and lots of acceptance speeches from Taylor Swift. The 19-year old took home 4 awards total including the biggest honor of all, Entertainer of the Year. Swift also opened the show with a fun and bouncy performance of her song Forever and Always.
After cracking up the audience with Kanye West jokes and poking fun at his co-host Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley found time to pick up Male Vocalist of the Year for the third year in a row. Underwood walked away with no awards this year but kept a happy face during the show and didn't miss a beat while hosting. I really like her. I think she's a gorgeous woman with an amazing voice. And her lyrics are all about girl power. Props to her.
Sugarland won Vocal Duo of the Year for the third year running and Darius Rucker, of Hootie and the Blowfish fame, won New Artist of the Year. Turns out,those country music people really like themselves some Darius Rucker. I don't really, but they do.
One of the highlights for me was the Dave Matthews performance. I love this band! And I'll also admit that I'm a big fan of Taylor Swift. Speaking of which, did you catch her on SNL on Saturday? She was VERY good. BIG check plus for her acting and singing skills.
- Here's the deal. I'm a bit obsessed with Saved by the Bell. Any time anything happens with any former cast member, particularly Kelly or Zack, I am ON IT. Which is why I was thrilled when I read that Tiffani Thiessen is pregnant. A little Kapowski is on the way!
- After weeks of speculation, Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane confirmed that they are indeed pregnant. Yes, these two have had a bit of scandal recently but I dig ‘em. Best wishes to the couple!
- Mike Tyson was arrested earlier this week at LAX after punching a paparazzi photographer in the face. Tyson claims he was defending his wife and child though the photographer says he wasn't acting threatening at all. Both men were arrested and released. I'm not sure I have a real opinion on this story other than it must really suck to get punched in the face by Mike Tyson, particularly outside a boxing ring.
- Levi Johnston is suing Bristol Palin for joint custody of their child. I wonder if he thinks posing naked in Playgirl was such a smart idea now. I'm guessing this guy isn't going away any time soon. In fact, wasn't he just quoted saying Jon Gosselin is a good dad? I mean, why was he even talking about that? Right? As though we need Levi Johnston as a social commentator. Um. No, thank you.
- Gwyneth Paltrow was cast this week as Nicole Kidman's wife in the upcoming movie, The Danish Girl. Yep, as Nicole Kidman's wife. Kidman is playing a man who has a sex change for his wife. And that's Gwyneth. It was going to be Charlize Theron but she had to back out so now it's my girl Gwyneth. Can't wait for this one.
- Shaq's wife filed for legal separation earlier this week. This is the second time the pair has separated. So there's that.
- We all know I'm wishing for a big Lindsay Lohan revival but each week it seems less and less possible. Last week her father revealed taped conversations with her from a few years ago. This week, he started unveiling taped conversations with his ex-wife Dina. These snippets included references to her dating Heath Ledger when he died, to her cutting herself, and to the likelihood of her dying young. For the love of god, Mr. Lohan, PLEASE leave the poor girl alone. She's making enough of a mess of her life without you adding gasoline to the fire. Seriously. Stop it.
- Carrie Prejean is still around. And still talking. Note to Carrie: Take a quick breather. Stop talking. Apologize for taking up people's time. And come back later (if you must.)
