'Hotel Transylvania' Sets September Box Office Record With $43 Million

Hotel Transylvania, the animated flick starring Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy and other classic monsters, mashed its way to a September record at the box office this weekend with $43 million.

Families were in the mood for a scary good time at theaters this weekend, helping 'Transylvania' to the best September opening ever.
The film, which features the voices of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Kevin James and Cee Lo Green, beat Reese Witherspoon's romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama which opened with $35.7 million in 2002.
In second place at the box office this weekend was Looper, the scifi thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis playing the same person at different times in his life.

The time-travelling flick was boosted by excellent reviews from critics (it currently holds a 93/100 at RottenTomatoes), suggesting good word-of-mouth will keep ticket sales flowing for weeks to come.
Rounding out the top five at this weekend's box office was Jake Gyllenhaal's cop thriller End of Watch ($8 million), followed by Clint Eastwood's baseball drama Trouble with the Curve ($7.5 million) and the horror flick House at the End of the Street ($7.2 million).
