Is Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's Tomboy Display Harmful?
Experts debating over Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's style.
We've all seen the photos of one of Hollywood's most beautiful children...but Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's tomboy 'tude is under scrutiny, as child development experts weigh in on whether it's healthy for her to sport the look of a little boy. (Even Brad Pitt has noted it.)
One expert, Jonathan Alpert who's a psychotherapist in New York City, has said, "If though, Brad and Angelina are dressing Shiloh in boys clothing to make a social or fashion statement, I suggest they stop. It's never a good idea for parents to defy societal or cultural norms at the expense of their child to make such statements - it comes with a cost." Alpert added that the tomboy fascination could lead to Shiloh getting "picked on or ostracized by her peers, potentially leading to social problems, anxiety, and poor academic performance" when it comes time for her to go to school.
But psychotherapist Carol Tuttle who's written a book on expressing female identity through clothing says that the fact that Angelina and Brad let Shiloh exercise her independent spirit "is a very healthy activity for a little 3-year-old girl."
Brad Pitt has stated that he and Angelina are aware of Shiloh's tomboy tendencies, as he told Oprah once: "She only wants to be called John. John or Peter. So it's a Peter Pan thing. So we've got to call her John. 'Shi, do you want ...' - 'John. I'm John.' And then I'll say, 'John, would you like some orange juice?' And she goes, 'No!' So, you know, it's just that kind of stuff that's cute to parents, and it's probably really obnoxious to other people."
.
We thought it was cool...until we saw pics of Shiloh dressed similarly to a little boy from before she could even talk. Hm. Meanwhile there are new questions about Angelina's faithfulness to partner Brad...did she cheat on him with her dialect coach during Salt filming?
And remember when Shiloh lost her tooth in September? So cute!
