Jay-Z, Alicia Keys to Play at World Series Opener
Take me out to the rap game.
The New York Yankees are on their way to yet another World Series, and this time they'll have one of New York's own serenading them as they step onto the field. Jay-Z is set to perform his hit "Empire State of Mind" with Alicia Keys at the series opener tomorrow.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Jay-Z has been a lifelong Yankees fan and couldn't contain his excitement after they recently won a spot in the World Series.
"The whole time we knew we had the performance," Jay laughed. "We knew we had the performance last week. I think it was 3-1 [in favor of the Yankees] at the time. [The Yankees] lost that game to make it 3-2. I was like, 'Man!' I had to come in [the stadium] with the stage and all that. I was like, 'Man, these guys gotta come on.' It was almost selfish."
The hip hop king has had a lot on his plate recently. His new album, The Blueprint 3, debuted at numer one a month ago and has already gone platinum, and he's even got a video game coming out, DJ Hero: Renegade Edition. So this new gig playing the World Series is just icing on the cake.
"First of all, the new [Yankee] Stadium — it's the Yankees and it's game one of the World Series," he said. "I'm beyond excited about it, and on top of that, it's a New York record. It's a record that pays homage to New York."
Catch the performance from Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, and the first game of the World Series, tomorrow on Fox.
