Jennifer Aniston Gets Engaged to Justin Theroux

Guess Those Breakup Rumors Were False …

You must be feeling pretty special today, celebrity watchers. Because Friends star Jennifer Aniston just got engaged, and you knew about it before her dad did!

Actor Justin Theroux proposed to Aniston last week during a visit to the North Carolina set of her upcoming movie We're the Millers, and Aniston's publicist confirmed to US Weekly that, yes, the two officially became engaged on Friday.

But when Celebuzz.com contacted Aniston's father, Days of Our Lives actor John Aniston, to get his reaction to his daughter's big news, they were in for a surprise: Mr. Aniston was surprised to hear about his daughter's impending nuptials, because she hadn't yet told him!

Ah, only in Hollywood would a parent find out their kid is getting married from a gossip website.

But back to that happy news, Theroux, who's been dating Aniston for about 18 months, proposed to her on his 41st birthday Friday. The double celebration came on the heels of rumors the two had broken up after a romantic European vacation in June didn't end in an engagement.

If a breakup did happen, it was obviously a brief one, and the upcoming wedding will be the first one for Theroux, and the second one for the 43-year-old ex-Mrs. Brad Pitt.

Theroux's rep told Celebuzz.com, he had "an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend accepted his proposal of marriage."

As for Aniston's dad's reaction to the engagement, the proud, if surprised, papa told Celebuzz.com, "It's a surprise to me. I'll have to look online. When I find out more, I guess I'll tell you," though, upon the website's description of events, he did say the engagement "sounds very romantic."
