Jennifer Hudson Has Never Had a Drink - Ever
Jennifer Hudson Has Always Been Sober
On the Chelsea Lately talk show to promote her new movie "The Invevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete," American Idol alum, Jennifer Hudson, shocked the E! host by revealing something very unusual.
Hudson, 32, who plays a heroin addict in the movie, had to dig deep -- really deep -- because she's never tried the drug.
It's great because you play a heroin addict, which is the only drug I've never tried," Handler said, then asked, "You've never done heroin?"
To which, Hudson replied, "I've never done anything, so that was hard to play this role. I've never had a drink in my life. I'm sober," Hudson shared. "I'm like, 'Okay, this is new to me.' Normally as an actor, you have things to pull from. I was like, 'I don't know what it's like to feel any of that.'"
This did not go over smoothly with handler who first rose to fame on the heels of her best-selling "auto-biography" "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me Chelsea."
What do you mean you've never had a drink?" she asked, incredulous. "What are you waiting for?"
"I don't know. I've never been interested. Nobody ever believes it," Hudson insisted. "When I got this role, I was like, 'Oh my god, what am I gonna do? What am I gonna pull from to play the role?'"
So, in order to get into character, the Weight Watchers spokesmodel met many addicts and talked to them about their struggles and what using was like. As she recounted to the E! audience, "They took me through each and every step of what it's like, how you get addicted to drugs and what it feels like when you are high. She told me it was like an orgasm. I was like, 'I could do that part! I could fake that!'"
The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete opens today.
