What Happened, Jessica?

Many guys have terrible timing. Whether they're constantly late for dates, saying the wrong thing at the worst possible moment, or dumping you the night before your 29th birthday, they can never seem to get it right. Just ask Jessica Simpson.

The buxom blonde pop star just had a very crummy birthday. She was all set to enjoy a Barbie and Ken themed party when, out of nowhere, she got dumped by her boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Now, these two are not your average boyfriend and girlfriend, so it's impossible to compare them to a normal relationship. One of them gets paid to sing and look pretty, and the other runs into things for a living, so they aren't exactly known for their wisdom.

But that doesn't mean we can't learn anything from them. So what would make a guy pull such a bonehead move, and why would he do it the night before her birthday?

First of all, let's not forget what sort of party Simpson was planning for the two of them. I mean, if the girl is 29 and still wants to play Barbie, it isn't much of a stretch to guess that Romo probably finds the relationship unfullfilling. Plus he'd probably never hear the end of it in the locker room.

So, unless he's just a run-of-the-mill jerk wrapped up in a nice guy package, it's obvious Romo got spooked by something. Maybe he can't handle committment right now. Or maybe there's too many distracting cheerleaders at football practice. Or maybe down deep he's just a scared little boy who doesn't know what he wants in this crazy life.

But the most probable answer is - we'll never know. The big myth about men, even the most brutish of football players, is that they're simple and easy to figure out. But of course this is wrong.

As Romo has demonstrated, they can be just as fickle and inexplicably random as the stereotypes we have of women.

So take heart, Jessica. Maybe one day you'll find a real Ken.

very interesting article. It's nice to have a guy's point of view. If you're serious that she was planning a Barbie and Ken bday party, that's too funny!
