Joey Buttafuoco Tells His Side of Long Island Lolita Story

Just what you've been waiting for -- the Joey Buttafuoco tell-all book.

Yes, Buttafuoco is writing a memoir.

While Buttafuoco's affair with teenager Amy Fisher, dubbed the "Long Island Lolita," and her subsequent shooting of his wife may well be faded from your memory, he believes it's time to tell his story.

Buttafuoco said a recent illness inspired him to write the book, telling Huffington Post, "My motivation to write the book is the life-threatening illness I had, diverticulitis. I was bleeding black blood like a dumper on a hot day on a New York City Street. The doctor told me I had 48 hours to live. I was writing things down like a knucklehead on a napkin. I cried for three months trying to recover. I was always the strongest guy I ever knew, emotionally and physically, but this took me to my knees."

It's been 20 years since the affair with Fisher made headlines and spawned a couple of TV movies.

Buttafuoco's ex-wife, Mary Jo, released a memoir in 2009, while Fisher has written two books about her story.

Buttafuoco explains his book, titled Closure, saying, "I am not carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders anymore. I was always on the defense from day one. Law enforcement put me on the defensive. Attorneys put me on the defense. I have built up so much anger and hostility. I was living my life making bad choices and decisions. The minute I turned it over to a higher power I had relief."

He calls being thrust into the limelight a "nightmare" to live with, recounting how the police "mishandled the case" and "attorneys just wanted to see their names in the paper."

Buttafuoco insists, "I'm not trying to get people to change their opinion of me, but I want them to have the correct information."

According to him, "Police corruption was part of it, payoffs were part of it -- I'm going to reveal all."
