Jon Bon Jovi "Shocked" By Daughter's Recent Heroin Overdose
Bon Jovi Had No Idea His Daughter Was Using Drugs
In a recent interview with the Associated Press to promote the upcoming Hurricane Sandy concert at New York City's famed Madison Square Garden, Jon Bon Jovi answered questions about his 19 year-old daughter, Stephanie Rose's, recent heroin overdose.
Evidently, neither Jon nor his high school sweetheart-turned-wife Dorothea, had any idea that their daughter was even using drugs.
The A.P. asked "How do you go forward from there?" To which Bon Jovi replied, "I didn’t have any sisters. We bring home this girl the first day. Now what? Where’s the manual? There was no manual. So you bring her up the best you can, you surround her with hugs and kisses and know that she may eventually fall down. I appreciate the outpouring of kindness in light of what happened in my household. I’m shocked as much as the next parent with this situation and had no idea. But then you surround them with best help and love and move on, and that’s where we’re at with it. Steph is a great kid. Great GPA. Cool school, Hamilton College up in Clinton, N.Y. Everything about it is idyllic. She was doing great. Then a sudden and steep decline. Hopefully, we caught it when we did and that’s the end of it. But who knew? I’ve got three more to come."
Ugh. Any parent's worst nightmare. You have a great kid, think that they're happy and healthy and safe at school and then, BAM, smacked in the face that they've not been any of those things. How do you not take that sort of thing personally and attribute it to something you may have done as a parent? As some sort of mis-step along the way?
Sounds like Stephanie Rose has a loving, supportive family by her side and hopefully this recent event will have scared her straight.
