Jon Stewart Talks Gay with Mike Huckabee
Stewart enters the marriage debate and comes out swinging.
Jon Stewart got into it a bit with former presidential hopeful and future political contender Mike Huckabee on Tuesday night. Stewart pressed Huckabee, a former pastor and prominent conservative, on his gay marriage stance.
Hairy Hands asked the Governor why, as a supporter of marriage, he was against the idea of gay marriage, which would only further committed unions. Stewart also tried to counter the notion, often cited by social conservatives, that people choose to be gay.
"Religion is far more of a choice than homosexuality... Gay people don't choose to be gay. At what age did you choose not to be gay?"
Good question, Jon. Stewart went on to say he thought it was "a travesty that people have forced someone who is gay to have to make their case that they deserve the same basic rights."
