Kate Beckinsale Was In a "Drink and Die" Situation
Filming Whiteout Made for Surprising Drama
Kate Beckinsale admitted that she was afraid to drink anything alcoholic when she was filming Whiteout in the sub-Arctic for fear of death. The stunning actress had been warned that she could end up with frostbite, hypothermia, or even Sudden Adult Death Syndrome if she indulged, and that kept her away from the stuff.
Her realization sounded like it came around the same time that she was shocked by the cold. Because Kate had filmed in places under deep freeze before, she didn't think it was a big deal!
"I'm always wearing fewer clothes than everybody else in the movie so I felt I'd handle it," Kate said. "It was just a different level of cold. I think it was minus 58 Fahrenheit when we were there, where you just can't believe it." Kate played US Marshal Carrie Stetko, who followed a killer to Antarctica right before the sun does its usual 6-month disappearing act.
I've felt -30 F (and don't want to again). Imagine working in it! We're just glad to hear that Kate Beckinsale, who doesn't really drink as it is, steered herself away from alcohol for the duration of her work time.
